Steve Malzberg Endorses Dave Larsen and Trashes Leonard Lance

Today conservative radio talker Steve Malzberg interviewed David Larsen regarding his campaign for Congress. Larsen spoke with confidence and assurance, explaining his position on the issues, why he is running for office, and why it's time for the voters to retire Leonard Lance on June 8. Shortly after the interview ended, Malzberg's producer received a call from Lance (who declined a previous offer to appear with Larsen), demanding equal time.

Malzberg interviewed him shortly afterward and Lance proceeded to shoot himself in the foot several times.

Malzberg ultimately had this to say of David Larsen: "You are exactly what this country needs in Congress."

Malzberg had this to say about Leonard Lance: “How could they trust you to not do something like that again?"

At 4:30 PM Malzberg contacted David and spoke with him for close to 6 minutes, during which time the conversation ranged from Larsen's background to the reason he is running for office to the property tax flap created by Lance to divert attention from the fact that he voted for Cap & Trade.

Needless to say, the interview went very well and Malzberg openly endorsed Larsen. A few minutes afterward, however, Larsen's producer received a phone call from an irate Lance demanding equal time - in spite of the fact that Lance declined a previous invitation to appear on the show. Malzberg agreed to interview Lance, who appeared shortly after 5 PM.

Truth be told, it was a horrible interview: Lance was clearly unprepared and, when challenged on his Cap & Trade vote, sputtered and stumbled and stammered, regurgitating lame and often irrelevant talking points. On several occasions he tried to shift the focus of the conversation from Cap & Trade to other subjects, but Malzberg wasn't taking the bait.

Close your eyes and you can practically see him squirming and sweating. At the conclusion of the interview I suspect Lance banged his head on the desk as his staffers murmured fecklessly to one another about how to begin the damage control. It didn't help matters that Malzberg took a phone call from a listener who expressed her support for Larsen by pointing out that she sometimes made late payments on her taxes and didn't consider it a big issue. However, she did take issue with Lance's mudslinging and expressly stated that she would be voting for "that guy, David Larsen."

Apparently, so will a majority of Republican voters.
