Reagan Conservative David Larsen believes that a man is defined by how he keeps his word. “If elected to Congress I will take the following oath of office: ‘I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter; So help me God.’ I intend to uphold that oath every day that I am in office.”
Government – I believe the size and scope of the federal government must be reduced to those powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution and that the federal budget ought to be reduced accordingly.
Taxes – I believe the current income tax system hinders growth. It should be replaced with a simpler, flat or fair tax that collects only the revenue necessary to support the constitutionally authorized activities of the federal government.
Economy – I believe that free market capitalism creates prosperity. Unnecessary and unconstitutional regulations must be repealed so that entrepreneurs are free to fuel the renewal of our economy.
Military – I believe the highest priority of the federal government is to preserve and protect the liberty and security of the United States. To this end I believe that our military should be the best trained and best equipped in the world. The U.S. has never become involved in a war because its military was too strong.
Firearms – I agree with the Founders that a well-armed citizenry is the nation’s last bulwark against tyranny. I support the Second Amendment right of private citizens to keep and bear firearms, whether for hunting, sporting or self-defense.
Foreign Policy – I believe we must reaffirm our commitment to our allies while making it clear to any potential aggressor that we will use all necessary force to protect ourselves and our interests abroad.
Border Security – I believe that border security and the enforcement of immigration laws are critical components of our national defense and that it is the responsibility of the federal government to accomplish this mission, starting with sealing our borders.
Immigration – I believe that illegal immigration should be dealt with by enforcing existing immigration laws and ending the practice of sanctuary cities. Legal immigration should be carefully regulated to ensure the proper assimilation of new arrivals in order to preserve the unity of our language and culture.
Abortion – I believe in the sanctity of innocent human life from conception to natural death. The Constitution makes no provision for a right to have an abortion and I believe the Roe vs Wade decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court should be overturned. Marriage – I believe that marriage is a social and spiritual contract between a man and a woman that is the bedrock of a stable, civilized society. I support the Defense of Marriage Act and will oppose any federal legislation that seeks to legalize same-sex marriage.
Environment – While I believe the Earth exists for the benefit of humanity, I also believe we have a responsibility to use these resources wisely. I support reasonable legislation and regulations that achieve this end and oppose regulations that favor the environment at the expense of the people’s liberty, safety or security.
